Team Sunshine London Marathon 2024 runners raise nearly £150K to help grant more magical wishes to seriously ill children
Rays of Sunshine is delighted to announce that its team of London Marathon 2024 runners have raised more than £149,000 to help grant more magical wishes to seriously ill children across the UK.
The TCS London Marathon 2024 took place on Sunday 21st April, with 39 amazing runners taking part for Team Sunshine.
Running conditions were optimum throughout the day, and Rays of Sunshine provided plenty of sunshine across its two cheer points at Mile 13 and Mile 25.
After completing the iconic 26.2 mile course around the capital, runners were treated to a luxury post-race reception at the prestigious Royal Automobile Club. There, Rays of Sunshine offered an exclusive goodie bag filled with treats, alongside a delicious meal, drinks and – maybe most important of all – massages. Our mascot Sunny even made an appearance to say thank you to runners and their families for the time and effort they put into their amazing fundraising.
One of our amazing Team Sunshine runners was Joe, who ran to celebrate his little brother Charlie. Charlie was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia when he was only two-years-old, and was granted a wish by Rays of Sunshine in 2016.
Charlie, Joe, and their family got an adventure of a lifetime swimming with dolphins in Florida, which Joe has forever been grateful for. Although Charlie is not running, Joe was ‘just so grateful that he is still here and that he can get to see me as I cross that finishing line.’
Inspired by his family’s amazing memories of Charlie’s wish, Joe decided to run the London Marathon and fundraise so other children like his brother can have their own wish. He said: ‘We did so much on that holiday, and the memories are something I treasure. I am running to help other families make magical memories, like we did.’
Joe and Charlie’s story was published in the Metro in the run up to the marathon – read more about their journey here.
Dan Assor, CEO of Rays of Sunshine, said: ‘I want to congratulate and give a huge thank you to all our runners for completing this challenge and raising an incredible amount of money. The time our team has given towards their training and fundraising is so appreciated.
‘Every penny raised by the Team Sunshine’s class of 2024 will go towards helping us grant more wishes to seriously ill children across the country – brightening their lives when they need it most.
