An important update regarding our CEO
On behalf of the Trustees and Executive Board of Rays of Sunshine, we wanted to share some important news.
Lindsey Bennister, our current CEO, has decided to step down from her role at Rays of Sunshine, in order to pursue a longstanding ambition of hers to undertake professional training and qualification as a psychotherapist.
We would like to say an enormous thank you to Lindsey for her inspiring attitude and important contribution to Rays, especially during such a difficult time for charities. Although she will be missed, we wish Lindsey all the best in her next endeavour.
Following this, we are really pleased to announce the appointment of our new Chief Executive Officer, Dr Michele Afif, who will take up her post in the coming months.
Michele has been one of our trusted medical advisors almost since the inception of the charity and has a real love, understanding and passion for what we do at Rays.
An NHS paediatrician by background, Michele worked for 10 years as a consultant with a special interest in paediatric oncology and haemoglobinopathy, before retraining in medical law.
She comes to us after five years as a medicolegal consultant at the Medical Protection Society, during which time she has worked to assist doctors in difficulty. Throughout she has maintained her connection with clinical practice and the care of unwell children.
Commenting on her appointment, Michele said:
I am thrilled to have been given such a fantastic opportunity to work even more closely with a charity I love. It is a real privilege.
We are incredibly excited for Michele to be joining us and we are confident that she will ensure that the charity continues to shine and bring joy and hope to seriously ill children and their families when they need it the most.
