Meet the Team: our sunshine superheroes taking on the 2025 London Marathon

Collage against a yellow background of many different runners We are thrilled to introduce you to the terrific team we have running for Rays of Sunshine at this year’s TCS London Marathon.

The Team Sunshine class of 2025 is made up of 43 runners of all abilities and from all walks of life including some famous faces like Chelsea legend John Terry. For many, this is their first marathon, but for others it’s the latest in a long line of challenges. Many of our runners also have a touching connection to our cause, and are running so that other families like theirs can experience the magic of a wish too.

Whether you make it to the course to cheer on the sidelines, or are watching from home, you’ll be able to spot our amazing runners by their sunshine-yellow running vests. Be sure to give them a wave when you do!

Here are a few of the faces to look out for along the 26.2-mile course on 27th April:

Ross: Ross is a headteacher working in East London and has been helped throughout his training by his school’s dog, Wanda! He is running in memory of his nephew Bobby, who was born with Sanfillipo Syndrome and granted a wish by us in 2016. His wish was to meet Mr Tumble, and Ross says the memories of that day are still cherished by his family.

Zac: Zac works in the military and is running to honour the impact Rays of Sunshine had on his life while he a young child in hospital being treated for a brain abscess. Rays of Sunshine hosted activity days and invited him to different events after he’d recovered from his life-saving operation. “Life on the ward was grey, but when Rays of Sunshine came in, they brightened up my whole world,” he recalls.

Jemma: Jemma works as a physiotherapist and is running in honour of her brother, James, who was granted a wish by Rays of Sunshine when he was 10-years-old and receiving treatment for a brain tumour. James wished for a new computer, which acted as a sort of window to the rest of the world while he had to spend so much time in hospital and at home.

Harry & Charlie: Brothers Harry and Charlie are running in thanks for the wish Rays of Sunshine granted Harry, after he was diagnosed with several liver conditions, resulting in a transplant in 2022. “Rays of Sunshine gave me memories that have lasted a lifetime, and I want to help them create those same moments for other children who are facing tough times,” he says.

Warren: Warren is running in honour of his daughter, Lily, who was born with a serious heart condition and required multiple surgeries from as young as one day old. We granted her a wish to have a new iPad when she was nine years old, and Warren is running to ensure other children like her could have their own magical experience.

Alongside the rest of Team Sunshine, Rays of Sunshine Chief of Staff & Director of Fundraising & Communications, Amy Chambers, will also be completing the race. She has seen first hand on so many occasions how important the work Rays of Sunshine does is for families. We’ll be cheering her on alongside every other member of the team!

She says: “It has been an honour to be a part of Team Sunshine this year, and see the enthusiasm and joy that our runners have brought to this challenge.

“We are hugely grateful to every generous person who has donated to our runners. Every penny fundraised will help us to grant even more wishes to seriously and terminally ill children in the UK.”
