Rays of Sunshine’s Sunshine Choir launches charity single “Rainbow” with Silvastone

We are delighted to announce our Sunshine Choir has officially released its first original song, Rainbow, with the help of musician and producer Silvastone. Launched on Blue Monday, the song aims to brighten the lives of the public. 

“Rainbow” was co-written by the Sunshine Choir – a group of budding young singers who have all faced serious illnesses and had a wish granted by the children’s charity Rays of Sunshine.  

The choir aims to reduce feelings of isolation, while giving young people who have similar experiences of living with serious illness the chance to bond over their shared love of music. The group was invited to Universal Music Group in London to record the single, alongside musician and producer Silvastone, who also helped to write the track.  

The lyrics reflect the group’s lived experiences with their illnesses and encourages listeners to find their own inner strength. Lyrics include, “I’m a champion // I stand tall // There is nothing that can make me small”, and “Today I’m brave // Strong // Happy and bright // And you can’t stop me // You can’t dim my light”. 

Ruth was born with pulmonary hypertension and other breathing conditions, which impact her everyday life. She has defied doctor’s predictions that her illness would stop her from singing, and in fact sings the lead in “Rainbow”.  

Her Rays of Sunshine wish to have a bedroom makeover was granted back in 2017. Since having her wish granted, Ruth has been a special part of the Rays of Sunshine Wish Community ever since.  

Speaking about Rainbow, Ruth said: ““Writing and performing ‘Rainbow’ was an incredible experience, and one that very accurately reflects my joy to be a part of the Sunshine Choir.  

“It’s been a pleasure to make friends with other members, record with SILVASTONE at Universal, and work with the lovely Rays of Sunshine Team. I want the people listening to feel the same hope and happiness that we do!” 

Jenny Porter, Events Manager at Rays of Sunshine, said: “We are so proud of our Sunshine Choir for creating this powerful song. Every choir member shared their unique story in the lyrics and being able to witness their enthusiasm and pride singing it on the recording day was amazing.
