Finley's Wish Community Adventures

The fantastic Finley has been a part of our Wish Community ever since his wish in 2016.

Often attending with his little sister, he's been to a huge number of our events, from accessible skiing, to film screenings and our Christmas party.

Meet Finley

12-year-old Finley has lived with a brain tumour since he was a little boy. Finley’s treatment means he often uses a wheelchair to get around, but it doesn’t slow him down and he’s still a daredevil at heart.

He has been part of the Rays of Sunshine Wish Community since his Disneyland Paris wish in 2016.  His mum Debbie says he’s been able to do things with the Wish Community that he “couldn’t dream of otherwise.”

An unforgettable skiing experience

When Finley’s family saw our Wish Community Event at Chill Factore, in partnership with Disability Snowsports UK, they signed up straight away.

“He was a little bit nervous to start with,” explains Debbie, “but the Rays of Sunshine and Disability Snowsports UK staff were so encouraging.”

With adaptive skiing equipment and expert support, Finley eventually embraced the slopes with confidence and joy – so much so, he even filmed his trip down one of the slopes, with his cheers and giggling the perfect soundtrack!

Finley’s other adventures

Over nine years of Wish Community Events, Finley has been to private film screenings, behind the scenes tours, ice skating sessions, parties and more.

Debbie says: “Finley had his wish when he was very young, but because of the Wish Community we’ve been able to stay part of the Rays of Sunshine family for so much longer.”

The impact of the being in the Wish Community

Debbie says the impact of the Wish Community on her family has been huge.

“Some of our favourite family moments are because of Rays of Sunshine events, and I’ve especially loved seeing Finley and his sister Chloe make those memories together,” she says.

“Finley has been through so much – more than any child should have to – but over the years I really think Rays of Sunshine has helped us raise him to be the happy and confident boy he is.”
