A Metal Detecting popular YouTuber called Deep Digger Dan who has almost a quarter of a million subscribers has started a 365 day journey and video blog on ‘digging the coast’ for Rays of Sunshine. He is travelling & metal detecting around the whole of the British Coastline in a year.

Dan Holdsworth is already 11 days into his journey which he started from Bridlington and has each day travelled south all the way down to Skegness already, where he will be today. Dan is posting a daily blog and daily YouTube video and he has already raised over £3,000.

Deep Digger Dan said

“I’ve started my year long journey to metal detect all around the coast of Britain over 365 days. I am doing this with the aim to raise £50,000 for the Rays of Sunshine – so that I can help the charity grant some very special wishes for seriously ill children. It’s a fantastic charity and one which I’m proud to raise money for.”

Every day of the year Rays of Sunshine gives brave and deserving young people the chance to put their illness on hold and enjoy a moment of escape. Over 5,000th individual wishes have been granted since the charity was set up in 2003.  Wishes can be as unique as the children themselves and whether a child wants to be a princess or a fireman for the day, go to Disney World in Florida, visit Santa in Lapland, own an iPad, meet a favourite celebrity or a ‘real life’ mermaid, Rays of Sunshine works hard to make that wish come true.

Dan is relying on donations to the charity as he posts his entertaining videos and raise money and awareness for the charity. He also has a very supportive social media following who are helping him out with accommodation and charging batteries as he travels around the British coastline.

“The fact I’m less than 2 weeks into my journey and we have raised £3,000 already – I’m hopeful we will smash the target by this time next year. The social media following has enabled people to come and meet me and support my journey and the charity I’m doing it for – it’s been fantastic so far.”
