Wish Spotlight: UK Holidays!
This month’s ‘Wish Spotlight’ looks at the fun UK holidays that we plan for our wish children and their families.
At Rays of Sunshine, we are very aware that a child’s illness affects not only the child in question, but their whole family. One thing our families mention often is the loss of quality time spent together – between hospital stays, treatments, and the stresses and strains of dealing with serious illness, it can be difficult to find time to pause and just enjoy each other’s company. Add to that the difficulties that can arise in finding accessible accommodation or traveling with medical equipment and sadly, for many of our wish families, a family holiday seems out of the question.
Luckily, this is where we step in and help out! We receive lots of wishes for family holidays in the UK, so now we’re a dab hand at finding the perfect spot for our families to take a well-deserved break!
Below are just a few of the wishes we’ve granted for UK holidays, along with the happy faces they created!
Ollie’s trip to Cornwall
Ollie and family really wanted a family holiday to Cornwall. When Ollie’s Wish Granter, Carly, spoke to the family about what they wanted from their break, it became obvious that Ziggy the dog was a very important member of the family! With this in mind, Carly researched which beaches in Cornwall were dog-friendly, before finding an equally pro-pup holiday home for the family to stay in. Carly also arranged hire and delivery of the medical equipment Ollie would need while he was away. Ollie and Ziggy had lots of fun on the beach and the lovely feedback from Ollie’s mum, Nicki, shows what a great time they had:
“We truly felt spoilt rotten and made some lovely memories, especially Ollie dipping his toes in the water and being carried over a wobbly rope bridge giggling all the way!”
Lily’s visit to Cleethorpes
Lily knew exactly where she wanted to go for her holiday, so as her Wish Granter I set about finding the family a lovely holiday home to rent in Cleethorpes. In any seaside town there are lots of properties to rent of course, so I sent the family a few options to choose from to make sure that we found the perfect place for them! We decided on a lovely house in the perfect spot for day trips so, as well as enjoying the beach at Cleethorpes, the family were able to visit the deep in Hull, Ingoldmells Jungle Zoo and Skegness too! Mum Donna’s feedback reminded us that having a holiday away from everything is always appreciated!
“Just to let you know Lily and her family had a brill holiday in Cleethorpes….this holiday was very much needed thank you x”
Macie’s holiday to Center Parcs
Macie loves all animals, especially ponies! When she made her wish for a UK holiday, she knew that she wanted to stay somewhere that she could go horse-riding. Mandy, Macie’s Wish Granter, kept this in mind and booked a break for the family at Center Parcs Elveden Forest, where Macie was surrounded by nature and had the chance to make a new four-legged friend who took her on a trot around the forest!
“Macie’s wish was so special because we got to share it with her and celebrate her 5th birthday….A big massive Thank you to everyone involved for making it such a magical week for Macie.”
Theo’s Holiday to Center Parcs Sherwood Forest
As you can see, Theo absolutely loves being in the water! Because of his medical needs, Theo’s family didn’t want to travel too far from home, making Center Parcs Sherwood Forest the ideal location for a well-deserved family holiday. Theo loved his holiday and was so excited about going that he made big brother Luis read him his itinerary to him every day – with no skipping anything of course!
“It was out of this world! Thank you so so much we made some lovely memorie”
Reo’s Butlins Break
When Reo came to us for a wish, his family told us that he loved Butlins – in fact, it’s his favourite place in the world! Once she knew that Reo’s Wish Granter, Jemma, knew that we had to send the family there. Because of his illness Reo hadn’t been able to go in the water for a while, but now that he was able to he was looking forward to lots of swimming and non-stop fun on his holiday – and looking at the photos it seems that the whole family enjoyed just that!!
