The Pinder’s fundraising story

We became part of the Rays of Sunshine family when our beautiful Jess was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on February 16, 2013. During our initial stay in hospital, a parent on the ward told us about the amazing charity Rays of Sunshine and how they had granted a wish to help their daughter through the hard times of treatment.

We then decided to apply for a wish for Jess to meet her favourite boy band, Union J! Jess’ wish was granted and we had a fun-filled day of bowling with Union J, as a family in June 2013. As you can imagine, it’s things like this that get you through the difficult times and it’s so lovely to see your child smile from ear to ear.

Jess has had so many more opportunities with the charity; from being part of the first Rays of Sunshine Children’s Choir and recording at the famous Abbey Road Studios London, to singing at the Royal Albert Hall and meeting many famous celebrities!

I have to admit, I enjoy that part just as much as her! More recently, Jess took part in the recording of ‘Bring Me Sunshine’ with Alfie Boe and Michael Ball. It was such an amazing opportunity for Jess and a day she will never forget. As you can see from how much involvement we have had as a family with the charity, we decided it was only fair we gave something back.

We decided to hold our first Charity Ball in October 2016. It was a great to see over 350 people in one room and showcase just what Rays have done for us as a family. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room!

Honestly, it was like planning a wedding, but I loved every bit of it from start to finish. As you can imagine our family life is busy with four kids and my husband, Scott, and I both work full-time. However, with the help of family and friends, we pulled off the ambitious event!

The night was fantastic, from start to finish. Compare, C J Tazz held the night together and we surprised the guests with some singing waiters! We played games and had a fantastic balloon raffle and auction. We raised over £16,000 in one night!

We never thought we would raise anything like that, but we did and I am so grateful for everyone’s stunning generosity on the evening. So much so, that we decided to do it all again…

So, in September 2017, we held our second ball. This time we raised over £14,000! So, in the space of 12 months, we have raised over £30,000 to help wish families just like us.

We cannot thank Rays enough for what they have done for us as a family. They helped us through the hard times and gave Jess opportunities we could never give her. These are memories that she will treasure forever and will hopefully tell her children about in years to come.

Jess is doing amazingly well and is in full remission, now in high school and loving life as a typical teenager.

I hope I can inspire people to raise money for this amazing charity. Maybe not quite as mad as us though…haha!

Everyone who knows me knows that I don’t do things by half! I am here to help anyone, I might be in the wrong job, come to think of it…………. Maybe I should be a full-time fundraiser!

We will continue to raise money for Rays for as long as we can. You won’t get rid of us now.

We love every single one of you!

Watch this space….

Much Love as always,
