It’s safe to say that one of the things we’re known for as a nation is moaning about the weather, but when you live in the UK it makes perfect sense…we all love a day out but they can be so difficult to plan when you have just as much chance of torrential rain and gale force winds, as you do a spot of Sun!

Luckily for us here at Rays of Sunshine, the recent lovely weather arrived just in time when, on Sunday 18 June, we were the proud charity partner of the St John’s Wood Classic and SuperCar Pageant!

This annual event sees a wealth of classic and supercars displayed along St John’s Wood High Street and car lovers from all over visiting to admire them, as well as fairground rides, a lucky dip, a raffle and even rides in a vintage Bentley. There was something for everyone. Fathers’ Day was the perfect date for this fun-filled family event.

An eye-wateringly early start (especially considering it was a Sunday!) for our amazing fundraising team meant that, by the time visitors started arriving, everything was looking good – and beautifully sunny – thanks, not only to the weather, but also to our lovely bright Rays of Sunshine stalls, set up along the street.

As people began arriving, it was great to see a mix of all ages joining the fun – from tiny tots to their grandparents.

We also met some new furry friends during the day, as lots of people brought their dogs along for a day out – including our very own Hayley Allan who was joined by the always adorable Crosby, looking very fetching in his Rays of Sunshine outfit!

It was a very hot day for Crosby but he was a trooper throughout….and definitely enjoyed all of the attention he was getting – don’t worry, we made sure he had plenty of shade, water and love through the day!

As for the rest of us……well we had a little help from our friends at Pret A Manger who saw us all wilting a bit in the heat and very generously arrived bearing gifts of delicious fresh fruit pots to give us a mid-morning boost! They even had time to stop for a photo with some of team from Rays before heading off to make sure everyone was feeling refreshed – a huge thank you from all of us, team Pret!

Whilst we’re saying our thank yous, a huge thanks needs to go to all of the volunteers and friends of Rays who came along to help us on the day and make sure that everything ran smoothly.

Everyone had a wonderful day enjoying the sun, the cars, and most importantly – time with their families….a brilliant day all round!

So, with a last thank you to everyone who visited the event, everyone who helped out and all of the car owners who brought their beauties to take part on the day…we’re signing off from St John’s Wood…….until next year of course!
