London, 5th May 2015 – Rays of Sunshine today announced that it has been selected by Nomura, Asia’s global investment bank, as its new London Charity Partner. The partnership will last for two years and aims to raise a minimum of £300,000 through employee fundraising in addition to in-kind contributions. The charity was chosen after a competitive vote involving London employees.

Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity aims to improve the lives of children across the UK living with a serious or terminal illness. Activities include granting individual wishes, granting hospital ward wishes and organising outings and events, including an annual concert at The Royal Albert Hall.

Nomura’s support over the two year period will directly help 2,000 seriously and terminally ill London children to fulfill their wishes. By alleviating fear and anxiety, wishes have been proven to aid treatment and response.

Jane Sharpe, Chief Executive of Rays of Sunshine, said:

“We are absolutely thrilled that Nomura has chosen Rays of Sunshine to be its charity partner. This will be our most significant partnership with a financial institution to date. Nomura’s support will directly help us to enable more than 2,000 children to put their illness on hold and enjoy doing something they have previously only dreamed of.”

A dedicated Rays of Sunshine project manager will work from Nomura’s EMEA headquarters in the City of London. Over the partnership period London based employees will hold a variety of fundraising activities to reach the £300,000 target.

Jonathan Lewis, Chief Executive Officer, EMEA, Nomura, said:

“We are delighted to have chosen Rays of Sunshine to be our charity partner for the next two years. Our fundraising efforts will make a significant contribution to the children that Rays of Sunshine directly supports. It will also help our employees to develop skills and experiences outside of their usual roles.”

Nomura’s award winning community affairs programme aims to support disadvantaged young people in London through a developed and focused platform. In April this year, Nomura’s two year partnership with St Giles Trust came to an end with employees exceeding the fundraising target by raising over £500,000.
