Phillips Family Have a Ball!
On Friday 18th March, the Phillips Family held a fantastic Fundraising Ball at Oulton Hall, Leeds, in aid of Rays of Sunshine and local Yorkshire charity, Candlelighters, raising an amazing £5,000 for each charity.
In 2014, Rays of Sunshine granted Harry’s greatest wish to meet his idol, world-famous magician, and Rays of Sunshine ambassador, Dynamo, after he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia in 2012.
Thankfully, Harry has now finished his treatment and his family wanted to hold a fundraising party to help grant magical wishes for other children who, like Harry, want to put their illness on hold for a day and have their greatest wish granted.
Andrew Phillips commented:
“Thank you to everyone who supported us at our event at Oulton Hall in aid of Candlelighters and Rays of Sunshine. The generosity of friends and family never ceases to amaze.”
Wish ambassador, Alice Halstead, who attended the event along with her family, took to the stage to explain just how important a wish is to children living with a serious or life-limiting illness:
“Anyone who has seen the impact a wish can have on a seriously ill child and their family understands the power of a wish. For an ill child having their dream come true benefits them in all sorts of ways. In 2013 after a friend had attended Harry’s Ball, I made contact with the Phillips family to start the process of referring Harry for a Rays of Sunshine wish. I am sure the majority of you will be aware, Harry’s wish was to meet Dynamo the magician who is one of our ambassadors.
Dynamo took on the role of the waiter to surprise nine wish children, including Harry at Frankie & Benny’s in Wembley. Harry was introduced to Dynamo where he able to demonstrate one of his favourite tricks to his idol who commented on how skilled Harry was as a magician and how he had even shown him a thing or two! It was a pleasure for me to refer Harry for a wish, for us to be able to grant Harry’s magical wish and also to welcome him into the Rays of Sunshine family.
I am sure Harry and his family will agree, having a Rays of Sunshine wish granted is definitely one of the best medicines. These children are the courageous and determined ones in the world we live in today. Every child has a wish but some don’t have a lifetime to pursue them, they have years, months, days.
Thank you for helping us grant magical wishes every day.”
We can’t thank the Phillips Family enough for organising such a fantastic event and everyone who attended for their support. All of the money raised will help us to continue to grant magical wishes and, for that, we can’t be more grateful.
