This month, Rays of Sunshine will be launching a campaign in aid of National Teddy Bear Day, which takes place on 9th September. Young patients currently being treated in hospitals across the UK will receive a ‘bear-y’ special and cuddly surprise.

In addition to a teddy bear kit, the campaign is being supported by kids’ books and games brand Mrs Wordsmith, who have created activity books that boost creativity, build vocabulary, and promote positive social values. The fun books and kits provide seriously ill children an escape from their day-to-day treatment, and an opportunity to take part in a community event from their own beds.

In 2020, the campaign was launched in response to the Coronavirus pandemic, which has seen many children in hospital unable to interact with each other or make use of communal areas such as playrooms, to help combat feelings of isolation and anxiety.

Other ways to get involved in the campaign include fundraising via our teddy bear picnic. Ideas and materials can be found within the fundraising pack here or you can donate to the campaign here.

Nina Bradburn, Executive Director of Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity, added: “Our National Teddy Bear Day campaign activity aims to reduce the children’s feelings of isolation and provide some much-needed sunshine and joy during a very difficult time for them and their families. We are so thankful to the incredible Mrs Wordsmith for their support and putting smiles on the faces of 3,000 children is something we are very excited about.”
