Reality star pops in for a cuppa and grants wish, thanks to children’s charity

Joey Essex made a seriously ill fan’s d-reem come true when he turned up at his house for a cuppa, to surprise him.  Seven year old Callum, from Birmingham, had a shock when his wish came true to meet the reality star at his house.

Seven year old Callum, from Birmingham, is currently living with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia – a cancer of the blood- which he has been receiving chemotherapy treatment for since he was three years old. Luckily, he is now in remission but he is constantly in and out of hospital for regular check-ups.

When applying for his Rays of Sunshine wish his mum said: “Callum is Joey’s biggest fan. He is very selective about what he watches on TV, but made sure to watch I’m a Celeb… to see Joey Essex. His face always lights up with a huge smile when he sees Joey.”

Joey said: “When I heard about Callum’s wish, I jumped at the chance to go and meet him! I loved the idea of popping round for a cuppa at his house and surprising him!?

He’s a really great lad and I really enjoyed getting to spend some time with him. I hope he was a brilliant time at Legoland for the next part of his wish, which has been made possible by Rays of Sunshine and their charity partner The Fragrance Shop.

It’s was amazing to be able to help Rays of Sunshine to put a smile on Callum’s face. I wish him all the best and hope I get to meet him again one day!”

Becky, Callum’s mum, said: “It was an amazing afternoon. It was a dream to have Joey turn up and surprise Callum. Afterwards, he said it was the best afternoon he has ever had! We’re so thankful to Rays of Sunshine, and The Fragrance Shop, for making this happen. We can’t wait for the next part of his wish at Legoland.”

The wish has been made possible by Rays of Sunshine and their charity partner The Fragrance Shop which has donated 5p per transaction to Rays of Sunshine since October 2012 to make wishes come true for children like Callum. This year, the perfume retailer has raised £270,000 for the children’s charity and aims to raise in the excess of £300,000 before Christmas.

Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity brightens up the lives of seriously ill children in the UK aged 3-18 by granting wishes, granting hospital ward wishes and organising outings and large scale events for seriously ill children, including The Rays of Sunshine Concert.
