Alice, from Yorkshire, raises money for Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity by taking on a skydive
Alice Halstead, a Rays of Sunshine Wish Ambassador and former wish child, from Skipton, has raised an incredible £1,500 for Rays of Sunshine – a children’s charity that grants magical wishes for seriously ill children throughout the UK. The brave 25-year-old completed a hair-raising skydive in October, jumping 14,000 feet out of a plane!
25-year-old Alice, who is currently living with Type-One Diabetes, had her wish granted in 2009 when Rays of Sunshine organised for her to travel to London to see Lion King on the West End Stage. Her wish was a welcome distraction from her illness, which gave her something to look forward to during a tough time. This wish inspired Alice to support the charity and she has previously raised over a whopping £60,000 to help grant more magical wishes for children, just like herself.
On Saturday 8th October, Alice boarded a plane, took to the sky and jumped 14,000 feet, an incredibly brave feat to help some equally brave children. Alice was supported by her family and friends, as well as Rays of Sunshine, meaning she raised an amazing amount for the charity.
After her sky dive, Alice commented:
“Having a wish granted by Rays of Sunshine wish is definitely one of the best medicines. These children are some of the most courageous who live in the world today and I have made it my mission to make sure that every one of them is able to enjoy the magic of having their own wish granted. Rays of Sunshine grants the wishes of children who have to endure far more than they should and jumping out of a plane was a small challenge in significance. Thank you to everyone who came to support us, to those who donated and especially to my fellow jumpers!”
