A seriously ill nine-year-old, from Swansea, had his greatest wish granted to get up close and personal with a ‘jaw-some’ ocean creature when he got to swim with sharks, thanks to Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity www.raysofsunshine.org.uk.
Finlay Careless is currently living with a rare liver disease called Biliary Atresia, which he was diagnosed with at just two-months-old. Due to his condition, Finlay had to endure a liver transplant at just two-years-old, after being very ill, and will continue to take daily medicine for the rest of his life. Despite this, he is a very positive young boy, who has a real passion for all things sea related, especially sharks!
To make his dream come true, Rays of Sunshine enlisted the help of SEA LIFE London Aquarium, where Finlay got the chance to do a VIP Snorkelling With Sharks session in a specially designed net enclosure in the dramatic million litre ‘Pacific Reef’ display. As well as getting closer than ever before to six species of amazing shark, Finlay was presented with some of their naturally shed teeth which the aquarium’s professional divers had collected from the bottom of the display to take home as a souvenir.
Sarah, Finlay’s mum, commented:
“We would like to thank Rays of Sunshine for granting Finlay’s wish. The whole experience was wonderful for us all and we were very well taken care of. As for Finlay, he got to get up close with some of his favourite creatures in the world. One very happy boy! Thank you.”
