10-year-old Lauren is reunited with Linden the ‘real-life mermaid’ live on ITV’s This Morning
THIS WEEK, a real life mermaid surprised brave schoolgirl, Lauren, from Barrhead, Glasgow, with a touching reunion on ITV’s This Morning, thanks to the ITV programme and Rays of Sunshine.
Lauren Cosgrove first met Linden Wolbert in 2013 on the shores of Loch Lomond in Scotland, when Rays of Sunshine granted her greatest wish to ‘meet a real-life mermaid’, which was also the charity’s 3,000th wish. The 10-year-old was born at just 27 weeks and spent the first year of her life in hospital. Lauren lives with several health complications including a condition called Short Gut Syndrome. She has endured countless different operations and long periods of her time are spent in hospital.
Watch the moment Lauren had her greatest wish granted:
Speaking to hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield on the show this morning, the little girl explained how her wish to meet Linden three years ago was the highlight of her life. Lauren explained that she still keeps in touch with her ocean-bound idol, as the mermaid likes to check in to see how she is getting on.
But Holly And Phillip and Rays of Sunshine had a special surprised planned in for the little fighter, as Linden tuned in to say hi to her brave friend once again. All the way from California, the mermaid spoke to Lauren through TV satellite, proving she remembered their first encounter well.
“It was chilly for a Californian mermaid but it was so magical being there with Lauren… I was so enchanted by meeting with this lovely little girl,” Linden recalled of their meeting while she was sprayed by an assistant with water and flipped her tail during the appearance.
Explaining that the job of a mermaid is to speak on behalf of the ocean’s creatures, she described meeting Lauren as one of the best moments of her life.
The young girl was given the chance to ask Linden a question, and wanted to know what her magic power is.
“My magical power is to make people smile, so I notice that no matter where I go, every time I look at somebody, they smile.”
