Rays of Sunshine Children’s Charity fulfil 10-year-old’s wish to visit Battersea Dogs & Cats Home
A seriously ill 10-year-old girl from Chelmsford, Essex had her greatest wish granted to visit the world-famous Battersea Dogs & Cats Home for the day thanks to Rays of Sunshine (www.raysofsunshine.org.uk) and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home (https://www.battersea.org.uk/).
10-year-old Gracie, from Chelmsford, is currently in remissions for Hodgkin’s Disease, a rare cancer which affects the white blood cells after being diagnosed in March 2016. As a result of this, the young girl was required to have six months Chemotherapy for treatment and now has to go to hospital for regular check-ups. Despite what she has been through, Gracie has remained brave throughout and continued to attend school during treatment. She is a confident young girl who loves animals, which was the inspiration for her greatest wish.
To make her wish come true, Rays of Sunshine enlisted the help of Battersea Dogs & Cats home to organise an exclusive day at the animal shelter, learning about what they do and meeting some of their residents. Upon arrival, Gracie and her family were all presented with their very own uniforms that they could wear for the duration of their visit and feel like part of the team, as well as a delicious dog-themed morning tea. Gracie then took part in a dog-grooming session with the Home’s groomer, ensuring that the dogs looked their best. Following this, the family were taken outside to an agility course where Gracie got the chance to train some of the rescue centre’s dogs, before embarking on a relaxing walk in Battersea Park. Whilst spending their VIP day at Battersea, Gracie’s family were introduced to a very special canine friend, Ariel and they just couldn’t leave her behind. They decided to adopt the cute Cocker Spaniel, ensuring a truly paw-fect ending for both Gracie and her new best friend.
